Poems/Not Poems | Poetry from the Sangha

Breakdown

By Jari Chevalier

He was like a struck temple bowl that starts all

the other bowls singing. Bowing his face

low, rocking that way, wholly

given over, he entered the waters of each of us.

It was something about what

was not possible: mastering life. Dictators

were dissolving behind our eyes, falling

on our hands. Enough recognized enough

and the collective came undone like a jigsaw puzzle completed.
