Mindful Eating Meal Cards, by Donald Altman

Reviewed By Ronna Kabatznick

(52 cards, www.mindfulpractices.com, 2007)

The Mindful Eating Meal Cards bring a deeper and more discriminating dimension to mindful eating. Each of the fifty-two cards is a meal- and snack-time companion to help cultivate connection, curiosity and conscious eating. The cards are divided into six color-coded categories: Mindfulness, Letting Go, Blessings, Hunger & Taste, Contemplations and Intentions. The “Flavor Map” card asks us to consider “where on the tongue do my 10,000 taste buds sense” different flavors. One of the Blessings cards suggests that we “receive what this meal offers” instead of simply taking it. These creative cards can be used alone, in groups and in silence. They are a bountiful feast of wisdom and insight.
