When the Buddha’s teachings start to appear in our culture’s popular songs, you’ll know that the dhamma is here to stay. That moment has arrived with the release of Dhamma Gita, a collection of dhamma-inspired songs by fourteen different performers and songwriters. One of the songs by Heather Maloney offers spiritual advice—“If your heart is aching, let it ache”—while a beautiful chant-like song by Monique Rhodes beseeches, “Lama, care for me.” Some of the songs rock, but most are folk- or blues-oriented. This CD is a sweet and honest musical tribute to the dhamma.
