Poems/Not Poems | Suffering

Haiku Sequence

By Stephanie Baker

mid-flight, fall

into grass:

is this how little birds die?

º

floating not stopping

through stoplight—

tiger swallowtail

º

after the fight

empty airwell—

a fly

º

oh! little owl

your yellow legs

in this dark garage

º

open ocean

his ashes—

lone gull

º

dragged by one leg

the last time I see him

into the knacker’s truck

º

after the feast—

soft white bones

in my garbage
